Marie J. Thompson Artists Studio Portraits and Still Life

If a picture speaks a thousand words, a portrait speaks volumes more. A portrait should capture the spirit and immortalize the likeness of a loved one. There can be no finer or lasting tribute than the traditional painted portrait. Marie Thompson is a portrait artist with a studio in downtown Nashville, Indiana since 1970.

An artists' studio nestled into an artists' colony. Nashville, Indiana has been known as an artists' colony since 1907 when T.C. Steele bought 211 acres south of Belmont, and began construction of the "House of the Singing Winds". A member of the famed "Hoosier Group of artists, Steel is still among Indiana's best-known painters. T.C. Steele's home, studio and grounds now comprise the T.C. Steel State Historic Site, nine scenic miles southwest of Nashville.

Painting began as a hobby for Marie about 38 years ago. In 1970, Marie opened her artist studio in Nashville, Indiana. Marie paints from life and/or photographs, using oil or pastel. She has taught painting for the Indianapolis Art League in Indianapolis, Indiana where she is a member.

Marie is a member of Indiana Heritage Arts

Marie is also a member of Hooser Salon, Indiana Artists Club, Bloomington Area Arts Council, Columbus Area Arts Council, American Society of Portrait Artists and Midwest Pastel Society.
